Statistics show that 96% of women who work in the commercial sex industry want out but see no way out, reported by the United Labor Organization. After meeting numerous women through our outreach who indeed feel stuck in this industry but would like to make changes, we love that we can offer an opportunity for ladies to join one of our work initiatives.
Through our Jewelry Initiative and/or Sewing Initiative, ladies can gain:
- supplemental PT income
- a new skill to put on a resume
- a reference for job applications
- a sense of community
- a stepping stone to other employment
The heart behind each work initiative is community, and through Our Beautiful Exchange we create a sense of this with the ladies who are committed to our OurBE Program.
Various items are created by the hands of women who live in Central PA and diligently work to exchange their previous way of life for a beautiful new one. They set personal goals to work towards, are employed by SSD/OurBE, and gain a personal support group to help them reach their goals.
It’s an opportunity to be around encouraging people and join other ladies who are exchanging negative things in their lives with positive things.
These items are then sold at various events scheduled throughout the year, at our speaking engagements, and on our new online store. Proceeds go back into SSD/OurBE to pay our employees, order supplies to make more items, and cover operating expenses for our Harrisburg center.
Ladies, if you are interested, you may contact us by calling or texting 717-422-2488 to set up a time to come in and chat with us! Please download OurBE Program form which further explains our program and standards of commitment.
